We spent part of this weekend in a pet store. I couldn't resist taking the kids in to look at all the puppies ( is there ANYTHING cuter? ) while we waited for my husband to get his haircut in the shop next door.

Since we don't have a dog, the kids were so excited and begging for a puppy, as you can imagine, the rest of the weekend. Let me put it this way, when we got home that evening the 2 eldest ( 7 and 5 ) spent over an hour...an HOUR...putting together a puppy show for us in the basement. They actually built a mini stage out of our furniture, gathered all their stuffed dogs and even a little lamb to put on a show for us. Fun!

To put it mildly, the kids would love a pet. We did get our son two beta fish last year and he was even thrilled with that. Elizabeth became someone he would run up and check on each day after school. Love knows no bounds when it comes to a child's pet, whether it is a fish, cat, dog or something else.

As a child they know they are constantly taken care of by their parents, but a pet gives them something to love as their own and take care of themselves. The feeling of pride they have over this responsibility is fun to watch as a mom.

Well, thanks to Kroger and Global Influence Network, I had the privilege to receive a $20 Kroger Gift Card in honor of National Kids and Pet Day today, April 26th! They have also given me an additional $20 Kroger Gift Card ( good at all their family of stores ) to give away to one of my lucky readers. This extra money could come in handy to help pay for needed pet purchases. :)

What did I really like? That I could swap out meals from any of the menus at any time of the day. We went for dinner around 6PM, and I really wanted the Chicken, Spinach and Tomato Pasta off of the Fit from the Farm Lunch menu. They had no problem giving me the lunch menu item for dinner!

The dinner was great. I often fear that the menu items from the "lowfat" section on menus will not be filling, but this definitely was. And, it was very tasty!

Review - General Mills Cereals - Lower Sugar!

Recently, My Blog Spark sent me 4 coupons in the mail for Free General Mills Cereal! They had told me about the new lower sugar option in kids cereal, so I used these coupons to get my children their favorite cereals and give them a try.

And, what did I choose? 2 Boxes of Cinnamon Toast Crunch and 2 Boxes of Trix. The kids couldn't get enough of them.

Here are some facts on their lower sugar announcment:

Are you interested in a great dinner out?

Here is your chance. I have a $25 Mimi's Cafe Gift Card to giveaway, and I am thrilled.

Personally, I don't want to lie here, but I had NEVER been to a Mimi's Cafe. In fact, I knew of only one and very rarely drive to that area of Cincinnati.

As many of you may remember, I went to a Bob Evan's Blogger event in 2009. While there, I learned that they own Mimi's Cafe, too. In fact, they gave me a $50 Gift Card to try the establishment out with my family.

Well, months later I finally packed my whole family into the minivan and we headed for a weekend night out and then dinner at Mimi's.

First, I have to say I was thinking it was like a Panera or a deli. I have NO idea why? I guess the word Cafe just through me for a loop. But, it is not like that at all.

I had planned on taking video of my 7 year old son talking about the restaurant ( but, procrastinated and now my video camera is full after Christmas ). He couldn't stop chatting the whole time we were there. "Mom, this is a fancy restaurant. Mom, the music is great, isn't it? Dad, are we dressed up enough to be here? Hey, look at that on the wall!"

OK, don't get too concerned that is is THAT fancy. You don't need formal attire. But to my son, who usually only goes out for pizza or Skyline Chili ( a Cincinnati specialty ), he knew it was something special for us. In fact, we ordered appetizers and even dessert! :)

For my husband and I, we honestly enjoyed it. We will be going back. And, my son was right. From the lighting to the music to the decor, it was very nice and welcoming. It was even a step up from our Bar & Grill nights out together. And, don't let me overlook the food. It was "yummy" as the kids said!

I love to read! Seriously, I love it! I think every one who reads my blog knows that. I can't get enough of books.

And, you know who else knows this passion of mine? My children do.

From the time they were born, I have been reading to them and they have been watching me read. They know how much enjoyment I get from it, and they also know how important reading is for their learning and education.

Through the years, their interests have changed. My 7 year old now likes to read chapter books himself at night ( although he does still crawl into bed while I read to the younger kids and listens ). My 2 year old loves the classic, Goodnight Moon and Guess How Much I Love You! In fact, I love those book, too. Sometimes, oldies are just goodies.

What do I like to read to them? Dr. Seuss, of course. I love the tongue twisters and making the books silly and fun!

So, I was very pleased that Cheerios and My Blog Spark sent me a gift pack which included 5 children's books, a $25 Barnes & Noble gift card and a box of Cheerios ( yum! ). Recently, I was thrilled to visit the new Bob Evans restaurant with a great group of other bloggers. If you haven't visited their blogs yet, run on over and say hello!

They invited us all up to take a tour of their new establishment and see the new design ideas, taste test items from their new menu and have a chance to discuss it with their team.

Personally, I was very impressed with the new design. It put me in the mind of a coffee shop style restaurant in the front. It had Wifi, flat panel TVs and I immediately felt like relaxing and chatting with friends.

As you walked further back into the restaurant, it transformed into a sit down restaurant but still had that welcoming appeal. It is a much trendier style than our old Bob Evans, and I loved it.

The menu items were also delicious. They have introduced appetizers, pastas, and more. These apple pie fries from the appetizer selection were delicious. But, I must say, save them for dessert for the children. Your kids won't be able to eat enough of them.

On top of that, they have meals to go. Lasagna? No problem...run to your local Bob Evans and pick it up!

I am an avid reader, as many of you know. In fact, so much so, that I actually gave it up for YEARS ( yes many, many years ) of my life. I would stay up all hours of the night reading, because I couldn't put books down and then struggle the next day to stay awake. I know, I am sad!

Well, that was years ago, and I once again read religiously. Sometimes it is new books, but I am not opposed to picking up an old favorite and rereading it. I have noticed, since I am a quick reader, I will often find parts I missed or didn't catch the importance of the first read through.

Regardless of what I am currently reading, I am always on the look for a new author that I may enjoy.

So, when One 2 One Network offered to send me a free copy of Eileen Goudge's new book, Once in a Blue Moon, I jumped on the opportunity. I was excited to see if I would be stumbling upon another author I couldn't put down!

I must say, the book was a quick read and kept me interested. It centered around the lives of two sisters who were separated and children and put into foster families. The story tells the story of the two as they rekindle their relationship as adults after leading two very different lives.

For me, I enjoyed reading both sides of the story. To hear two different perspectives on a given situation can allow every person to step back in their own lives and try to view something thru someone else's eyes. It also showed the depth that your past can play into "current" decisions. And, it is true, how you were raised will affect decisions you make throughout your life.

OK, maybe I am analyzing it too much, but my point.....I enjoyed the book.

It wasn't until the end of the story that I was disappointed. Often times, when I finish a story, I am sad it is over, but not disappointed. But, with this book, I did feel the ending was lacking. I just needed more detail or closure to the end.

All in all, though, it was a good book. For those who enjoy page turners and a quick read, you will like this book.

Last week, I was so thrilled when the UPS man delivered a gift pack from Febreze that I was getting to try out! It is their new Febreze Home Collection! I mean, who doesn't want their home to smell fresh, right?

Thanks to Febreze and My Blog Spark for giving me this opportunity.

I immediately began unpacking the box and was so pleased at all the different elements of this package. Not only was a I getting spray for the home, which I expected, but I got items that not only smell good but also look good. In fact, I already have them placed around my kitchen as decor.

What was included, and my thoughts?

Flameless Luminaries - I am placing this at the top of the run down, because it is my favorite. And, obviously, the favorite of my children. They can't keep their hands off of it, as they constantly turn the light back on! It is a base with a decorative, scented screen around it which lights up inside to give the appearance of a candle. All the while, it is releasing wonderful scents into the air.
Scented Reed Diffusers - I may be a bit biased on this product, since I already have reed diffusers in other spots around my home. I love the look of them and the mild release of scent over time.
Soy Blend Candles - These candles come in a glass candle holder, but what I liked is the lid. When the candle is not in use, I have the lid on. It is the same color as the base for the Flameless Luminaries and I created a little arrangement with both on my counter.
Room Spray - I am going to admit..I haven't tried it yet! It is the same scent as the candles and luminaries which are already scenting my kitchen right now, that I haven't had the need to pull out the spray! :)

In fact, 72% of Americans do NOT get enough calcium in their diets! And, just as bad, 76% are not getting enough Vitamin D! It is not just about exercising but also getting the need nutrients our bodies need to live long, healthy and productive lives!

In fact, I am overly thrilled about this giveaway, because I personally am in charge of the Box Tops for Education program for my son's elementary school now. I am on a mission to get our school numbers up even higher this year!

I know, I KNOW many of you reading this throw your Box Tops away or forget about them. Or, you homeschool, have no kids or your children are grown and gone. But, hey, that is no reason to throw money away, which is what you are doing when you don't clip them. You can donate them to your local school district! Or, hey, I'll take them! :)

Want some suggestions on how to make sure you don't forget to donate? When I get home from the grocery, I immediately cut them off all my boxes before I put them in my pantry, freezer, fridge, etc. Unless it is a container that I can't cut into until the product is used, I immediately cut them and put them in a baggy that I have stashed in a kitchen drawer.

Then, on the last day of each month, I send them in with my children and tally up how much I have donated! I average about $1.50 a month. Now, I know, this doesn't sound like a lot, BUT my child has about 800 kids in the school ( just kindergarten and 1st, mind you ). If every child did this, that could potentially be over $1,000 a month and $12,000 a year ( yes, still save them over the summer ). But, alas, my school comes in no where near that number, so we need to encourage everyone to take advantage of this great program.

So, before I get into the nitty-gritty on how to enter the $100 Giveaway, I wanted to touch briefly on the wonderful concept of the site FrumUs.com

This site was designed to assist all of us "shoppers" out there who try to coordinate gifts with many other family members, parents of other students, or teammates families.

We all know the drill! The end of the season is fast approaching, and all of a sudden everyone is scrambling..sending emails out to everyone..and asking them to bring money or mail it to them by a set date so a gift can be bought!

In fact, I am in the midst of this now with my son's 1st grade class. I keep getting notes home in my child's bookbag, asking for money to be sent back with my son in his bag...but NOT given to his teacher ( shhh, it is a secret ).

Wait a minute? What? I struggle with trying to explain to my 6 year old son that the money I am handing him is to be given to his classmate ( whose mother is trying to coordinate ), but don't let your teacher see! He looks at me a bit confused. Hmm! Did the money really get to his classmate?

So, I checked his backpack the next day, and well, nope! He forgot. And, there the money still sits in his backpack.

And, this is where FrumUs.com is going to make all of our lives easier.

All you do is set up a Free account. Then, you start a collection. Contributions can come via paypal or directly from credit card/debit card payments. Want to find the top 10 occasions others collect gift money for? Click here.

From here, you can designate who the gift is for and email everyone an invite to participate. Not only is a "collection" of donations for the gift a feature, BUT you can originally set up a poll to have everyone vote on the type of gift to purchase, etc. You can put a deadline on for donations, email reminders when you are nearing the end of the collection period and more.

In addition, once your money is collected, you can shop directly from their site at many of the online stores you shop today with the money and buy your gifts. Very convenient! Or, you can choose to have the money sent via paypal to you.

Don't have anyone you need to buy a gift for right now? That is fine. If you win, you have $100 to shop with for future gifts ( think Holidays, even ).

This, I have decided, is my favorite Dummies book giveaway so far. I am trying to constantly find ways, cheap and easy, to help our environment.
